The second Milestone review of phase 2 of the ESA ARTES 5-EMERGE project took place. The meeting, hosted at the RAI headquarters in Turin, included the review of more than 60 work packages with contributions from 34 companies, involving partners from Switzerland, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Italy.
The objective of the project is to prepare the market for the convergence between satellite services and online delivery, using 5G as an enabling technology. Progress was presented on architecture and communication interfaces, end-to-end testing plans, integration with OTT/OVP services, network security, 5G orchestration, and optimization solutions for edge and caching.
Several innovative testbeds were also presented, including direct-to-home, direct-to-vehicle, maritime, 5G-Broadcast, and NTN MBS scenarios, featuring new antennas and dedicated experimentation platforms.
